What is the Secret Agent Society Program?
The Secret Agent Society (SAS) is a world-renowned social-emotional learning program designed to help children understand feelings, communicate effectively, and manage everyday social challenges.
Originally developed by clinical psychologist Dr. Renae Beaumont, SAS has been implemented internationally for more than a decade and is supported by extensive research showing improvements in emotional regulation, friendship quality, and coping skills.
Each child begins as a cadet and attends weekly “club meetings” with their facilitators, Sonia and Melinda — both certified SAS practitioners and experienced clinical psychologists. Through missions, games, and interactive activities, cadets learn to recognise emotions, manage anxiety and anger, solve social problems, and build confidence in navigating friendships and change.
Skills Children Learn
The Secret Agent Society teaches a toolkit of social and emotional intelligence skills, presented through a playful spy-training narrative.
Children learn how to:
- Recognise emotions — Identify feelings in themselves and others using visual cues and emotion “detectors.”
- Express emotions appropriately — Use words, tone, and body language that match what they feel.
- Cope with anxiety and anger — Practise relaxation, problem-solving, and positive self-talk.
- Build and maintain friendships — Develop skills for joining conversations, taking turns, and resolving conflict.
- Cope with mistakes and losing — Learn how to recover from setbacks and focus on improvement.
- Handle bullying and teasing — Understand assertive responses and when to seek help.
Each week, cadets practise these skills during sessions and complete “missions” at home and school to strengthen real-life application.
Who is the Program For?
SAS is designed for children aged 8 to 12 years who would benefit from extra support developing emotional awareness and social understanding.
It’s especially suited to neurodivergent children with:
Autism
SAS provides a structured and predictable environment that supports children who thrive on routine and clear expectations.
The spy-themed format helps children learn social rules in an engaging, visual, and concrete way, improving perspective-taking and emotional recognition.
ADHD
The interactive “mission” style of SAS keeps children motivated and focused through gamified learning, increasing focus and attention.
The program teaches self-monitoring and emotion regulation tools that help manage impulsivity and frustration in social settings.
Anxiety
SAS normalises emotional experiences and teaches practical coping strategies for worry and fear, including relaxation, graded exposure, and problem-solving.
Through role-play and group missions, children build confidence in social interactions and learn to tolerate uncertainty and change.
Other Social Challenges
SAS is also suitable for children who have difficulty making and keeping friends, managing strong emotions, or navigating playground or classroom conflicts.
The program helps these children build resilience, empathy, and confidence—skills that support healthy relationships both at school and at home.
