What is the Secret Agent Society Program?

The Secret Agent Society (SAS) is a world-renowned social-emotional learning program designed to help children understand feelings, communicate effectively, and manage everyday social challenges.
Originally developed by clinical psychologist Dr. Renae Beaumont, SAS has been implemented internationally for more than a decade and is supported by extensive research showing improvements in emotional regulation, friendship quality, and coping skills.

Each child begins as a cadet and attends weekly “club meetings” with their facilitators, Sonia and Melinda — both certified SAS practitioners and experienced clinical psychologists. Through missions, games, and interactive activities, cadets learn to recognise emotions, manage anxiety and anger, solve social problems, and build confidence in navigating friendships and change.

Skills Children Learn

The Secret Agent Society teaches a toolkit of social and emotional intelligence skills, presented through a playful spy-training narrative.
Children learn how to:

  • Recognise emotions — Identify feelings in themselves and others using visual cues and emotion “detectors.”
  • Express emotions appropriately — Use words, tone, and body language that match what they feel.
  • Cope with anxiety and anger — Practise relaxation, problem-solving, and positive self-talk.
  • Build and maintain friendships — Develop skills for joining conversations, taking turns, and resolving conflict.
  • Cope with mistakes and losing — Learn how to recover from setbacks and focus on improvement.
  • Handle bullying and teasing — Understand assertive responses and when to seek help.

Each week, cadets practise these skills during sessions and complete “missions” at home and school to strengthen real-life application.

Who is the Program For?

SAS is designed for children aged 8 to 12 years who would benefit from extra support developing emotional awareness and social understanding.
It’s especially suited to neurodivergent children with:

ADHD

Anxiety

What’s Included in the Program

Overview: The Secret Agent Society (SAS) program involves an initial two-hour parent information session, 11 two-hour cadet club meetings, and 11 thirty-minute parent feedback sessions.

School Support: Teachers are updated on the skills and content participants are taught each session, and provided with guidance on how they can best support social skill application in the classroom.

Mission Journal: Between each Cadet Club Meeting, children participate in tasks and missions set out by the SAS program curriculum, in order to practice and generalize newly acquired social skills in every day life.

Skill Tracker: Participants can use a daily motivation tool to practice SAS skills at home, school, or during extra-curricular activities. The skill tracker monitors their progress throughout the program.

Gadget Pack: Espionage-themed digital and physical gadgets are gradually introduced throughout the program, and are designed to help cadets practice using their SAS skills in every day life, through an engaging digital medium.

Computer Game: Cadets are given a 12-month subscription to SAS Digital Headquarters where they can access and complete gamified learning activities at home. Games cover emotional recognition, emotional regulation and applied social skills within “choose your own adventure” exploration missions.
